How many of us have gone to the movies because the trailer was great, only to go and watch a flop! What a waist of 20 bucks… A few of yesterday’s models looked great for snow (trailer), but it looks like the event will get two thumbs down.
Heavy snow will fall close to home, with the better chances south. Below you will find our FUTURECAST snow totals. Right now, from around a Ft. Payne, AL to Dalton to Murphy, NC line and south could see a couple of inches with areas north including Chattanooga up to an inch, which might be pushing it. Further north, a few flurries. Look for snow showers to begin just before sunrise. As artic air moves in the afternoon, moisture will be squeezed out possibly giving us a better chance of snow before ending late afternoon.
Overnight forecast model data has come together for a track that is just a bit too far south. The greatest amount of snow locally would be in the higher elevations in west NC and in northeast GA where the moutains will enchace the activity. There will be a 50-75 mile wide area of heavier snow that could be as far south as a Birmingham to Atlanta line and as far north as a Gadsden to Rome to Dahlonega, GA line. In that area, snowfall totals could reach 2-5”…if we keep the rain away.
Travel troubles? Should be minor for us. Heading south could be a different story. Road temperatures on the interstates will be above freezing and most of the snow would melt on contact, but when the snow becomes moderate to heavy by mid to late morning, slick conditions could prevail. If you are traveling to Birmingham or Atlanta, keep it tuned to the forecast.
Wet roadways could freeze tomorrow area wide with lows in the TEENS! Do keep this in mind.
Sorry kids of all ages. I wanted it too. At least we will see some. More updates to come.
See you soon,
Brian
