A birthday marks a milestone for many people.
One Lakeview, Georgia woman made sure this birthday was one she and her family would remember for a long time.
It's a big day for Elaine Thomas.
Thomas:
"I'm 90 years old today."
This spunky great-grandmother will celebrate her nine decades with cake and candles later...but first, she's got something a little more adventurous in mind.
Thomas: "I'm going to hang-glide if it will clear up a little. I'm ready to go."
Sandra Martin, Granddaughter
"She's my hero, not many 90 year-olds can even walk and do the things that she does and she stays real active."
"Elaine is no stranger to the skies, she took her first ride for her 88th birthday. And she says if she lives to see 100, she'll do it all over again."
Thomas:
"I thought it was fun, I liked to look down at all the trees they look like broccoli and you can look up there it looks like broccoli."
After her first ride, Elaine promised herself another tandem flight for her ninetieth birthday...no matter what anyone said.
Thomas:
"Somebody told me I was crazy. <What did you tell them?> I just ignored it...wouldn't you?"
Martin:
"She's always been adventurous: she's travelled in every state, she's always been interested in new and creative things. She doesn't just do the generic."
Generic -- like a quite birthday celebration at home. Today's ride may not have gone as smoothly as her first flight...
Thomas:
"Went pretty good except there was a little bit of bobbing and weaving that's what made me feel a little dizzy but I'm all right."
The tough traveller says it was all worth the view.
Thomas:
"It's really beautiful scenery from that distance up it's really pretty up there."
A scene she says everyone should experience, no matter their age.
Elaine wasn't the only one gliding today.
Her nephew took a tandem flight as well.
Employees at the Lookout Mountain Hang Glide Park say Elaine is the oldest person to hang glide at their facility.
