KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A crew is moving an 80-ton boulder known on the University of Tennessee campus simply as "the Rock."
For years, students have painted slogans and messages on the Rock, which is being moved to a new spot across the street to make way for construction of a Student Health Center.
The dolomite boulder is being moved about 275 feet on Wednesday.
Senior Associate Vice Chancellor Jeff Maples told The Knoxville News Sentinel the Rock is known to have a fissure. If it breaks while being moved, it would be replaced and pieces of the original could be auctioned.
