It will be more than a year before the first car rolls off the assembly line at Volkswagen. But one thing is certain, the company will have plenty of applicants to choose from.

As of this morning, Volkswagen began accepting applications for production jobs that will begin in January.

The first step is done on-line.

Construction of the billion-dollar state of the art auto assembly plant is right on target at Enterprise South. And so is the enormous job of finding the right people to fill more than 2000 jobs.

MARIO DUARTE, V-W STAFFING & PLANNING "We're expecting about 70-thousand ..Some thousand applicants to get through our lines."

Chattanooga State will end up training most of the workers at a new site at Enterprise South. Today, it opened the library to advisors from the Chattanooga Career Center who helped anyone who needed help. Brian Weylar, who is not a student , came here to file his application.

BRIAN WEYLAR, V-W JOB APPLICANT "It would be a good interesting job to try."

Anyone can apply on-line and they have until November 15th to get the application in. As of late today, more than a thousand people had done that.

MARIO DUATE, V-W STAFFING & PLANNING IN:32:44 "we want people willing to work..willing to learn ..Very excited to join Volkswagen...somebody that can get a passion for the company..passion for the car and we'll train them."

Chattanooga State will play a major role in getting the right people to the plant. Volkswagen has said---.

JEFF OLINGY, CHATTANOOGA STATE V-P "We want employees that are trainable..not necessarily trained. They've got to have strong math skills ..Computer literacy ..The ability to communicate effectively."

Skilled employees and maintenance people are already in the system, and going through more testing. And, if you haven't heard about your status, the company promises to respond to every single applicant...

MARIO DUARTE "we will let everybody know either/or..so we just ask everybody to be patient. "
