Job Interview Practice for Students

"Um, uh, I'm planning on going to college." "Mmm huh."

Inside this classroom, one by one students face down an adult.

While out in the hallway, the rest of the class is getting a pep talk.

"So don't even worry about it, and these guys are so nice."

The students are learning what it takes to land a job.

Sarah Woodall, Sophomore: "Job interviewing, uh, I'm nervous....ah huh."

Leaders from several different companies like Shaw, Unum, and Courtyard Marriott agreed to come to Seuqoyah high school to conduct some mock job interviews with students.

Andrea Anderson, Courtyard By Marriott, G.M.: "If we can help develop that job skill set, where you are taking individuals from a high school environment, and bringing them into that kind of industry, then that's a win-win for everyone."

Jody Crim, Business & Marketing Educator: "In today's job market, you can have all the job skills in the world, but if you don't know how to sell yourself, you're never going to get that job."

John Mercer: "There are 20 students here in the Administrative Management class at Sequoyah High school. But it's not just job interviewing skills these students are learning."

Sarah Woodall, Sophomore: "I've learned a lot. We've learned about building our resumes, learned how to do everything on a computer that you would need to do for like a job."

Amber Turner, Senior: "I did Microsoft publisher, Microsoft word, and Microsoft power point, and Microsoft excel."

Those are all skills this group will take out into the real world to land that dream job.

Amber Turner, Senior: "I would like to work in an office, in the business field. I would love to do that and work on the computer.

And thanks to this class, she may get her wish.

At Sequoyah high school, John Mercer, WDEF News 12.
