Volkswagen says its Chattanooga/Hamilton county plant is right on schedule.
At a monthly briefing today at Enterprise South, Company CEO Frank Fischer reported that the search for production employees which began this week has already grown to more than 12,000 applications taken on-line.
Fischer also announced that Volkswagen will allow 15 assembly companies to build in the supplier park, near the main plant.
Trevor Hamilton is the Vice President for economic development at the Chamber of commerce.
He says that's an important step. "Many of those suppliers, bu necessity, have to be close within the region. So that was part of our vision for Enterprise South ..In recruiting an automobile assembly plant..was the opportunity to create a supply chain here in our market."
The chamber expects suppliers to provide some 11,000 jobs, in addition to the 2000-plus at the Volkswagen plant.
