A school resource officer was forced to use his taser gun to subdue an unruly tenth grader Friday morning at Red Bank High School.

It was the first time an officer has ever stunned a student at a Hamilton County School.

The quite at Red Bank High School was disrupted Friday morning...when a fight between a student and an SRO ended with a Tasing.

Hamilton County Sgt. Max Templeton says, "He was going through the school cursing loudly and causing a disruption."

The student was enrolled in the Washington Alternative School for a previous Zero Tolerance Violation.

He was only at Red Bank to take a test.

The student was ordered to stay in the office or cafeteria, but he refused, saying he had a problem with another student and was going to find him.

Templeton says, "If you can bring a person under control with just restraint then that would be the way to go. But if it's a person of size and you're having trouble bringing them under control trying to use restraint, then it's time to go to the Taser."

The SRO was called and tried to restrain the student.

When he broke free the officer warned him to get on the floor and stop resisting.

Templeton says, "I think this generation is having some problems with authority figures."

The SRO drew his Taser and warned the student to comply.

Hamilton Co. Schools Spokesperson Danielle Clarke says, "Striking an officer is considered a zero tolerance offense and this student will be suspended pending the outcome of this hearing."

Despite the severity of this incident, discipline problems and zero tolerance infractions are down in Hamilton Co. Schools.

All district SROs carry Tasers and use them as a last resort to bring people under control.

Sgt. Templeton says using a Taser on a juvenile is the same as using it on an adult.

Templeton says, "Its all about bringing someone under control without having to hurt them."

And he says hopefully won't happen again, "When they realize that its not play, and it hurts, it does hurt. Maybe they'll decide to be compliant when they're asked to be compliant rather than us having to go to those measures."

The student was taken to Children's Hospital as a precaution.

He is charged with criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct, simple assault and resisting arrest.

Well when you have parents

Well when you have parents who do not disapline there children and are to scared to whoop them they turn out to be adult or teens who think they can do whatever they want. They do not listen to adults and end up in alternative schools and jail and whatever else then you have parents who wont let the schools paddle there children so then the children think they can get away with anything there also we need to stop treating our children like they are angels and look at how some of them behave. the officer did what he had to do and we should support him not be yelling get him out what will you say when he is taken out and children are killed by a bully shooting the real innocent kids!!!

When was the last time you stepped inside a public school???

Okay....lets get real here. Ask any high school student..they feel safer knowing that a SR Officer is around...I know I did! Did you ever think about the poor kid this trouble maker was going to find? If the kid was able to get away from the officer, found the kid he was looking for, and beat the crap out of him..people like you would be asking why the SRO didn't stop him. It is one of those danged if you do, danged if you don't situations. The SR Officer didn't know if this kid had a weapon on him or not. He was not only protecting the other children, he was also protecting himself. What if this kid would have gotten loose and beat your child up....tasing wouldn't be so bad then..would it???

Way to go

As a police officer you have to do what you have to do. That officer didn't want to taser that boy but he kept pushing and did what he had to do. I wish every school had SRO's especially now a days. Its getting ridiculous. They are not bullys and they are not there to kill our kids. They are there to keep kids from killing kids. And they are doing a damn fine job.

Are there other cameras

Are there other cameras inside the school besides the one on the officer's Taser? If so, those are the cameras that should be viewed. The camera on the officer's Taser can be manipulated by the officer since the camera is only activated when the officer turns the Taser on. It won't show what happened prior to Taser being activated. Such as what the officer was really doing himself. Even if he was provoking the situation and had rough handled the student prior. The story is being told in favor of the officer and from his side. The public needs to get the entire story and not just one in favor of the officer. I knew it would only be a matter of time before some gunho officer in his glee only too anxious to tase a student would find some excuse. Mixing children with police have never had a favorable outcome. It just doesn't work. Many New York schools are already regretting ever allowing police into their schools. Now they can't get rid of them. They even threaten the staff and principles with arrest when they try to intervene on the behalf of the students.

It all starts at home

Before you go off and start blaming the officers at the school system for doing exactly what they are put there to do look at yourself and other parents of children who have behavior issues. If parents would teach their children to repect authority figures and obey simple, yet effective rules, then SRO's would not be a need. However, since a few roudy children make it an issue to distract other children officers are needed. As a graduate from a Hamilton Co school where SRO's were needed I am glad that I had one when things became rough. Do you complain when an adult gets hit with a tazer...NO. So if young adults and teens want to act like adults and disrespect authority figures then the will be treated the same. The officer gave the student time to comply with his directions and he failed to do so. If that officer was forced to use his tazer then he is trained in how to do it. So get off his back. Who do parents feel the need to complain when the very system they want to protect is protected.

Tasing Juveniles

It's sad that we loose sight of the fact that this kid brought this action upon himself. He was the only one that had to be tased today while at school. Somewhere we have lost sight of the fact that we have to be responsible for our actions. I don't believe anyone wants to see tasers have to be used on anyone, anywhere, but they control their destiny. It seems to me that if he's willing to fight the police, the taser was the least of his worries. I would like to know if he would be willing to try to fight again.

ITS TIME TO GET THE OFFICERS

ITS TIME TO GET THE OFFICERS OUT OF THE SCHOOL SYSTEMS NOW! THAT OFFICER HAS BEEN WANTING TO TASER A KID ALL YEAR LONG, WHAT IS THE SCHOOL SYSTEMS GOING TO DO WHEN A OFFICER BREAKS BAD AND KILLS A STUDENT BY TASING HIM OR HER? MAKE EXCUSES LIKE ALL OTHER LAW ENFORCEMENT DO, IF YOUR STUPID LAW MAKERS WOULD HAVE LET THE PRINCIPAL AND THE TEACHERS PADDLE THE STUDENTS WHEN NEEDED FROM THE TIME A KID STARTS TO SCHOOL, A LOT OF ADULTS HAVE DIED FROM BULLY OFFICERS THAT WANT TO USE THE TASER GUNS ON PEOPLE, MY QUESTION TO ALL OF AMERICA DO YOU WANT A TASER GUN USED ON YOUR CHILD AN CHANCE THEY MAY DIE OR FOR SCHOOL SYSTEMS TO USE THE PADDLE? THE PADDLE NEVER KILLED ANYONE, ITS A SHAME OUR GOV. OFFICIALS IS SO STUPID AS TO LET A BULLY IN OUR SCHOOL SYSTEMS WITH A TASER GUN, IT LOOKS TO ME LIKE OUR OFFICIALS WANT TO KILL OUR KIDS.

In reguards to the officer

Just a helpful hint, the taser was a less-lethal force used to control the kid, and if it had come down to the next use of force......Taser -vs- Gun ( yes with REAL bullets ) which would you rather him use? Or would you rather him let the kid go, and have the possibilty of him harming the student that ratted him out, or the entire school? I mean, its really up to you isn't it? Since you're so quick to critize.....put yourself in the Officers position............ Maybe instead of calling the officer a " bully " go and read a officers guideline, if a suspect is out of control and they have to use force, they have to use the less lethal force first before it comes down to ending a persons life. So I personally think the officer did what was right, he used the less lethal force he could to get the young man under sontrol and he handled the situation without anyone else getting hurt. And come on,,,, a PADDLE? Yeah, taht hurts for like two minutes tops, then they are back on their rampage. I kudo the Officer, and hope that if a situation simular came about, it would be handled like this one.

Are you kidding me?

The bullies in our schools are not police officers. They are full grown students(yes, there are 18, 19 even 20 year old grown men in our high schools) who are only there to protect their gang turf, sell drugs and otherwise terrorize students who are there to learn. I could just see the principal chasing this student down the hall with a paddle as he is trying to find the student he wants to beat up. The officer did what he had to do to protect all the other students and teachers at that school and I think he should have. It's time for these future (or current) thugs to realize their are real world consequences for criminal behavior. If an officer warns me he will taser me, I'll choose to comply with what he tells me to do. Stop defending a student who is old enough to know better. It's not like he tased a 10 year old.

It is not up to the schools

It is not up to the schools to paddle a child. If their parents would start being their parents instead of wanting to be their friends or being too busy living their own lives and ignoring these children, then the schools and the SROs would not have to take such drastic measures!
