Senator Bob Corker served as a keynote speaker for a community luncheon.
The freshman US senator returned to his hometown to share reflections of his first 10 months in office.
Corker says working on major issues such as Iraq, energy policy and health care was a learning experience.
He recounted one incident where he halted voting on President Bush's nominees to put more attention on the TennCare system.
Corker: "You know you don't do that lightly, but it ended up having a good outcome for our state, we actually got the issue resolved in a hurry after we had six extensions getting it solved, so it's not something you want to do lightly but in this case I felt it was important to do it."
Corker plans to discuss economic development possibilities with chamber members before spending Thanksgiving with his family.
