"I'm reluctant to support amending the Constitution in such a way that would be deemed unlawful and discriminatory."
GOVERNOR CHET CULVER SAYS IN WORDS WHAT HE RELEASED ON PAPER A DAY EARLIER.
HE OPPOSES AMENDING IOWA'S CONSTITUTION TO BAN SAME-SEX MARRIAGE, EVEN THOUGH CULVER SAYS HE BELIEVES ONLY A MAN AND A WOMAN SHOULD MARRY.
"One of the reasons that I think the Supreme Court voted unanimously, is because they did make a distinction between a civil marriage and a religious marriage. And I think my statement speaks to the importance of both protecting religious marriage and giving people protections, all people protection under our Iowa Constitution."
THE GOVERNOR HAS TAKEN HEAT FOR WAITING FOUR DAYS TO RELEASE A WRITTEN STATEMENT ON THE RULING AND FIVE DAYS TO TALK ABOUT IT.
"I think it's appropriate to take as much time as necessary, and in my case about four days, to thoroughly read the decision. I think what would have been a mistake, is any knee-jerk reaction."
THE GOVERNOR ANSWERS ABOUT EIGHT MINUTES WORTH OF QUESTIONS ON THE ISSUE, WHEN DEMOCRATIC STATE SENATOR TOM COURTNEY, THE SENATE MAJORITY WHIP, ABRUPTLY ENDS THE NEWS CONFERENCE BY APPLAUDING.
THE GOVERNOR IS ANSWERING A QUESTION ABOUT THE PROSPECT OF A CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION.
"It'll be an interesting question, and I'll ultimately decide whether or not I think we should have one, but we need a little more time to figure that out. I think some of the senators have to get back, and legislators. So thank you all
for coming."
Ok, first, it IS unnatural.

Ok, first, it IS unnatural. There is nothing natural about sex between same sexes. If it were natural, offspring could be produced form the act. No offspring, unnatural.
Next, the Christian religion does not really preach tolerance. The diluted Word of God is being preached. God is *intolerant* of sin and homosexuality is deemed a sin. The fact that so many want to call it otherwise only lends credence to the notion that God has delivered them to the depravity of their own mind. That is a tragedy.
Next, the word marriage has always been used, where humans are concerned, to describe the relationship between a man and a woman or God and His Church. See above for why the homosexual relationship should not be considered a marriage.
Lastly, I have a problem with many things that occur in my city/state/country. I am allowed to speak my mind, thankfully. I see this as an affront to a value system built on something more than "I want". I will be judged by many here who will say I should not judge, but that is NOT what God wants from us. He *wants* us to judge. Judge ourselves and each other. Then help each other NOT to do those things that keep us from a relationship with HIM. Sin is exactly what it is that separates us from God. Homosexuality is a sin. So, YES, I have a problem with that, and I will try to help those who commit sin to stop. That is my charge.

I HONESTLY HAVE NOTHING AGAINST HOMOSEXUALS. I JUST STRONGLY DISAGREE THAT THEY WANT TO USE THE WORD "MARRIAGE". NOW I WAS RAISED IN A CATHOLIC FAMILY, I REALLY THINK THAT THEY SHOULDN'T USE THAT WORD. MARRIAGE: " IS BETWEEN A MAN AND A WOMEN ". SO WHAT I SUGGEST IS THAT THEY CAN HAVE ALL THE SAME RIGHTS AS STRAIGHT MARRIED COUPLES HAVE BUT JUST COME UP WITH ANOTHER WORD.

What troubles me about this issue is the pretentious people of self professed high moral standards arguing against same sex marriage when in reality they have little or no real morals and likely violated most, if not all the ten commandments. This disgusting human condition has been displayed to me continuously all my long life and must be accepted by me as fact. Nothing disgust me more than a human-being with it's nose stuck up in the air.

That disgusts you more than one guy putting his.... oh never mind, I think you understand what I was about to type.
Your opinion then is that if I say homosexuality is wrong because God says it's wrong makes me immoral. This is flawed logic. Have I done some wrong things? Of course, as have we all. Will I be held accountable for ALL the things I have done? Of course, as will we all. I repent of my sins, I beg forgiveness and do my best not to stumble again. Homosexuals, by their "nature" do NOT repent, they do NOT try to avoid their sin, they return to it like a dog to its vomits or a pig to the sty. You can call me whatever you like, it really makes no difference. The truth is still the truth no matter what you call me. Homosexuality will be a sin to God no matter what you call it or me or however it might be legitimated by the legislature of this country.

JUSTA A SUGGESTION...

NOW I AM NOT GAY.... BUT I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH GAY COUPLES GETTING THE SAME RIGHTS AS HETEROSEXUAL (SP CHK) COUPLES... SOME OF THEIR FAMILIES "DISOWN" THEM BECAUSE OF THEIR LIFESTYLE. WHY WOULD THEY WANT THEIR HOUSE, BELONGINGS, AND TREASURES PASSED TO FAMILY WHO DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THEM? THEY WOULDN'T WANT THE BROTHER WHO WAS A BIGGET TO USE THEIR LIFE INSURANCE INHERITANCE (PAID FOR & SIGNED TO SAID GAY COUPLE)TO KICK OUT THEIR LOVER OR TAKE THE HOUSE *THEY BUILT* OUT FROM UNDER THEM... I SUGGEST CALLING IT SOMETHING OTHER THAN "MARRAIGE", FOR SURE... BUT THEY REALLY OUGHTA HAVE THE SAME RIGHTS AS MARRIED STRAIGHT COUPLES. IF A PERSON CAN LEAVE AN ESTATE TO A CAT OR A DOG, THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO LEAVE IT TO THEIR LOVER- MARRAIGE OR NOT... GAY OR NOT.

I applaud Governor Culver's statement and his thoughtfulness. The constitution, of a state or of our nation, is NOT the place to institute discrimination for ANY group of people for ANY reason. It is the source we are all supposed to be able to turn to in this country for protection or relief from discrimination of any type.

Well, let me ask you a question then. What about bestiality? If I love my dog and he loves me and we engage in that act and want to marry, will I be discriminated against and not allowed to be married? Why not? Believe it or not, sodomy is still against the law in most states.

gay marriage issue.
really i dont see what the problem is, im a highschooler and already im more open minded than most of these people. Their religions preach tolerance and forgiveness but when something does not sit right with them they deem it unnatural. How can you support two people of the opposite sex getting married for the money when they dont love each other and you cant support two men or two women who honestly love each other getting married. And as for them using the word marriage, the word speaks of a sacred union, the turning of two halfs into one whole. If homosexuals cant use the word then why should anyone else have the right to? If you have a problem with their lifestyle use the simple method of just dont look. People seriously need to grow up andd be more mature.
