Roots Fest 2008 Comes To The Scenic City
This week the scene is all about the music...as Chattanooga Roots Festival kicks off this Friday. " You get a lot of talent in there show casing what Chattanooga has...and when you see it all in one place and your interacting with all these other bands. It's just a really cool experience and it lets you know what we've got to offer musically"--Jack Corey of Doghouse Riley. "Local Chattanooga music and everything that is Chattanooga music is all coming together."--Jonathon Wimpee of Milele Roots. We managed to catch up with a couple of this weekends featured performers. First up , the eclectic southern rock improv of Dog House Riley. "It's pretty unique it's got it's roots in jazz, blues, funk, and jam music of course"--Scott Smith. Coming together three years ago Dog House Riley blends a high energy performance with exceptional talent. But that does mean it its all fun and games. "The cool thing about dog house riley is that we all come from different musical backgrounds. Even if we don't like where that person is coming from on an individual level when we bring it all together it makes a good little project"--Hunter White. Dog House Riley brings a polished and proficient sound to their live shows that is sure to please even the staunchest music aficionado. But if your musical pallet yearns for a more relaxed vibe then look no further than Chattanooga's own reggae powerhouse Milele Roots. For nearly eleven years Haitian born Bassist Christian Craan has kept the vibe alive in the scenic city and now has assembled some veteran musicians to take milele roots to the next level. The group consists of talent from across the country that combine for a sound that is all roots. And finally on may tenth the long awaited debut album will be released by focal point records. In addition to DogHouse Riley and Milele Roots.. roots fest will pack twenty five acts from Chattanooga and the surrounding areas with more than a couple of artists featured here on the scenic city scene. Like Microdahts SeerSucker of course the Molly Maguires. So there you have it Chattanoooga roots fest runs this Friday all the through Sunday evening three days of nothing but local music and camping.
