Regents Panel Votes Tuesday on Tuition Increase

Comments Below: 0

A tuition increase that would range into double digits for some students at Tennessee Board of Regents' campuses is set for a committee vote Tuesday.

If the Business and Finance Committee approves the increase, it will be considered by the full Board of Regents on June 25.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports that students who take 12 or fewer hours of classes would pay 6.3 percent more. Tuition would increase by 11.4 percent for those taking 18 hours.

The board approved a 5.5 percent increase last year.

Chattanooga State Community College President Jim Catanzaro says
the cost burden "is falling with increasing weight onto students."

The system's four-year universities include Middle Tennessee State, Memphis, Tennessee State, Austin Peay, Tennessee Tech and East Tennessee State.
