kNeighbors save a woman from a house fire this afternoon in Chattanooga.

The blaze broke out at 1810 Carson Avenue around 5:30.

Cynthia Monfort told police she was cooking food on the stove, left the room and then fell asleep.

She was the only one at home when neighbors saw smoke and called 911.

Neighbor James Polk says, "I knocked on her door, she came out. I didn't want to see any tragidy. The good Lord had me looking out cause she could have been gone."

Firefighters worked quickly to get the blaze under control, but the damage was extensive.

The dollar loss was estimated at around 50-thousand dollars.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross were called in to provide assistance to Monfort who does not have renter's insurance.
