Prostitution A Problem In East Cleveland
Comments Below: 3
Police say it's selling very well in East Cleveland.
"Sometimes you can't help but see what goes on," says business owner Laurie Pavlou.
After the sun sets, the streets in East Cleveland open for business--the business of prostitution.
Cleveland detectives constantly receive complaints about the after hour activities on Central Avenue-- from the drugs to the hooking.
Pavlou runs T&L Baking Co. on Central Avenue.
"When you see it happening you feel bad for the neighborhood because it just created trouble for everyone else," she says.
Prostituting did create trouble for 43-year-old Dorothy Edwards this week. She was caught trying to offer oral sex to a man for money.
Detectives say Edwards is just one of many trying to make a living on the street.
Neighbors say that line of work has got to go.
"It makes me feel uncomfortable we do have a lot of young ladies in town that are very good girls and they do not need that type of influence in their lives," says resident Cora Bailey.
Can't be!
Cleveland is Church of God Headquarters of the world. Things like this don't happen there. If it did the unbiased Cleveland Daily Banner would have reported it.
Get A Grip on Reality.
Wow , it must be nice to live in a fairy tale world. How can you be so unaware of the problem. I don't live anywhere near that side of town and I have heard about it. I would suggest taking 5 minutes for a reality check, as well. Cleveland is also the meth capital of the southeast and what is the Church of God doing about that?

Prostitution
As a woman, I do not in any way condone prostitution, but I don't think many of these women do this because they want to. I think they don't see any other way to survive. Maybe they aren't "qualified" to work in an office, or in the medical field. Maybe they aren't able to go to school, or maybe they were laid off from a company and still have to put food on the table. When arrested, does anyone come to ask them "why" they are doing this? Are they asked if they need help finding a job? Are they single parents? Are they on drugs? Or is there nothing for them on the other side of the fence when they get arrested? Some will choose to better themselves when the chance is given. Those are the ones that narrow the percentage of prostitution in any city. I just wonder why Cleveland has be focused on when prostituion exists in all cities and in every social class.
