At least one public waterway in Monteagle was polluted Sunday when a primary treatment basin failed at the city's waste-water treatment plant. Almost a 100-thousand gallons of effluent went into Juanita Creek. Monteagle has two wastewater treatment plants...and this was plant number consisting of an above-ground steel tank. Some of the leakage continues tonight as crews work to direct the flow into the second tank. That sewage treatment plant serves about 300 people. Monteagle has also begun chlorinating the bypass into Juanita Creek A police officer first noticed the failure at 4am Sunday morning and reported it to town officials. State water pollution control teams are also on the way to help.
