Polk County Inmate Escapes From Jail, Caught
Comments Below: 0
Police have caught an inmate who escaped from the Polk County Jail last night. A dispatcher says Jacob Charles Roswell escaped by overcoming a corrections officer in the booking area. The incident happened around 10 o'clock. After a 15 hour search, officers spotted Roswell not far from the jail, hiding at a family member's home. The Polk County jail at the new $8.8 million justice center has been open for six months. The state fire marshal's office inspected the old jail last June and gave the county 60 days to move inmates from that dilapidated building to the new county justice center. The fire marshal's report showed dangerous conditions at the old jail, such as exposed wiring near metal cells, overcrowding and lack of sprinklers. No comment from officers about any change to keep inmates from escaping.
