Police Warn of Bogus Postal Inspectors
Chattanooga police are warning the public about some Postal Service imposters.
They've recieved a complaint about two men approaching homes in East Brainerd and Ooltewah, posing as U.S. Postal Inspectors.
They knock on the door, show you a badge and then ask who lives inside and are they here.
Postal authorities say they do have inspectors here, but they do not go door to door.
The only description so far is that they are two men driving a red pickup truck and van.
If you spot the bogus inspectors, please call the Chattanooga police.
mailboxes in front of new deliveries
I can't believe all the negativity about not having a mailbox in front of your home. My neighbor has backed over mine twice (she's an old woman). She has never acknowledged that she did it nor has she offered to pay for its replacement. My husband has to weedeat around it and he hates to use the weedeater! Yes, it's nice to decorate at various times of the year but so is a lamppost. Yes, it's convenient to get my mail daily but sometimes I just don't have the time to read it and it lays on the counter for a few days. I would just as soon get it less often and not worry about someone taking it from my mailbox. That is the convenience of a cluster box. The mailman may not like it but it's an option that shouldnot be ignored. What about the safety factor also. Children play near the street and sometimes in the street. One less vehicle stopping at the house is one less opportunity for an accident to happen. Also, if it is less costly for the Postal Service and it delays an increase in postal rates, then I'm all for it.
Mailbox in front of deliveries
Would you rather walk blocks to pick up your mail, and if not standing by mailbox have a notice left for signature and parcel delivery? Uniform rates for uniform service. You should receive the same service as door to door across the street.
With package pick up offered
With package pick up offered by the USPS, those residents with cluster boxes may not receive the service. This is a shame when so many people are now working from their homes. You certainly can't leave a package by a cluster box and expect it to be there when the carrier delivers.
package pick up
If I have a package pick up for a cluster box delivery, I pick it up at the house. Mailman

If you call the 1-800 # the carrier receives a notice to go to your door and pick up your packages....cluster box or not.
