More Drivers Slow Down To Conserve Gas

We've all heard the tips to help us save gas, check your tire pressure, turn off the air conditioner. It seems many drivers are listening.
Joe Leming, "Just keeping tune-ups on my car and my tires aired up, that's pretty much all we can do."
Pat Bridges of AAA, "People are still driving but they are taking a lot of precautions doing what's needed to save gas mileage."
Sandy Martin, "Just go the speed limit, slow down."
Preliminary state traffic data suggests drivers across the country have done just that. Average speeds on many interstates have decreased. One report shows driving 60 instead of 65 miles per hour saves you 20 cents per gallon.
Pat Bridges of AAA says if you plan to hit the road this 4th of July weekend, allow a little extra travel time.
conserve gasBridges, "You use more gas going 70 or 75 miles per hour which people tend to do when they're on a trip. Accelerating, decelerating that uses a lot more gas than just cruising so use your cruise control."
If you do stay close to home, you might want to rethink those left hand turns.
Bridges, "That sounds crazy but it's very true, you're sitting there in traffic idling away, wasting gas. UPS has already rerouted their drivers to make mostly right turns to save gas."conserve gas
Daniels Spinks drives for a living and says he's made adjustments to his routine. "You try to make three trips into one, instead of going this way and that way you try to make one route of it."
Most people expect gas prices to keep going up, all they can do now is try to make that tank of gas last a bit longer.
