Ramsey, "There's a lot of work and I can tell you that started this morning "
As Hamilton County Commissioners sport their new VW hats, Mayor Claude Ramsey says the real work has just begun. It's a group effort as the city, county, and state work to get this 1300 acre site ready for Volkswagen. Ramsey says VW has expressed interest in even more land.
Ramsey, "They'll be opportunities for corporate facilities, manufacturing as well as suppliers."
When asked about incentives, Ramsey says the land was a big one.
Ramsey, "In large development I can tell you from first hand experience, if you're not willing to put the land in the incentive package you don't get much conversation."
Work is underway to re-route a stream the Army moved years ago. Access to Enterprise South is another project, that means road work must be done near Hickory Valley and Bonny Oaks.
Ramsey, "It will have additional traffic, but being able to come in from 58 into the park and begin able to come off the interstate directly into the park will be a lot of help."
Planning is also underway to build a training facility on or near the 1300 acre site.
Ramsey, "A lot of that will depend on the company's time frame. It'll be shaped to VW specifications."
While a lot of work lies ahead, Ramsey assures Chattanooga, this project will happen.
Ramsey, "I wouldn't be sitting here if I thought it was going to be delayed or dropped in any way."
It's worth mentioning, Mayor Ramsey says in all the meetings he attended, there was never any talk of a VW engine plant here or anywhere else.
