Golden Apple Award

High School English can throw anyone for a loop.

But at Lookout Valley Middle High School there's an English teacher who gets an A-plus from her students.

Jill McBryar is this week's Golden Apple Award winner.

Shakespeare isn't the easiest subject to tackle... But in Jill McBryar's classroom, these students get it.

The eight year veteran teacher has a passion for English and she says in her classroom kids learn more than in-text citations.

McBryar says, "We work on writing. We work on grammar. We work on literature. But also, you know, being on time, making deadlines, taking responsibility for things."

Those lessons and the care they come with makes her students take note.

Senior Matthew "Mookie" Huckabee reads from his Golden Apple nomination letter, "If you don't understand something, you just have to ask her and she will tell you."

Huckabee says before Ms. McBryar English was a drag... But thanks to her enthusiasm and attention to detail it's one of his favorite subjects, "I just love coming to class because she teaches things so well."

Huckabee says in McBryar's class everyone grasps the subject and they're excited to answer questions in class, "She breaks it down and tells us what everything means."

For Ms. McBryar it's a two way street, "I learn something new every day."

She says teaching is what she was born to do, and preparing these kids for the future is a dream come true, "I can't imagine any other profession being as rewarding as this one."
