When you've won ten consecutive league titles, it would be easy to get complacent. But not for Lady Mocs head coach Wes Moore, especially since last season ended with that loss to Charleston in the SoCon Tournament.
"Not going to the NCAA tournament should guard against complacency."
Said guard Tagan Hatchett about the loss, "We still talk about it now. We were actually talking about it today. We all remember it. It's fresh on our minds. We're real excited to get back."
Besides winning the SoCon again, Coach Moore would love to get a big non-conference win.
UTC plays both Georgia and Kentucky this season.
"Every time I watch the highlight film, and they flash up that 8 point lead on Tennessee, it really does hit home what an opportunity we missed out on. That's another goal I think would be try to have some wins against some of the BCS schools that are on our schedule."
Moore also hopes his team stays healthy, as injuries limited the lineup last season.
"Bailey (Dewart) and Kori (Penland) were both shooting over 40-percent from the 3-point line, so it definitely changed what we could do offensively, especially to keep people off Shanara."
Said Hatchett,"We only had about 7 people playing, so I think we're going to continue to get better, where as last year Coach Moore said we kind of just stayed in the same spot because you didn't have a lot of competition at your position."
The Lady Mocs have 8 freshmen on their roster, but they also have the reigning SoCon player of the year in center Shanara Hollinquest.
Said Hollinquest,"Well, I definitely have to be more vocal. Have to voice my opinion. Carry the younger girls along with me."
