Chattanooga police say 51-year-old Debra Wine is recovering from a gunshot wound to her back in the trauma-intensive care unit at Erlanger.
Police say their initial investigation indicates her husband accidentally shot her at their home on Ely Road in Hixson early Wednesday.
The Wine's home had been burglarized a couple of times.
She let her dog out when she thought she heard an intruder outside.
Her husband reportedly tripped over the dog causing him to fire his gun.
