Meanwhile.. School officials are now saying why they locked down Hixson High School Thursday morning. A parent called with a tip that there was gun on one of the school buses. They never found one. But by the afternoon.. Two students admitted to exchanging a gun on the bus on Tuesday. Both have been suspended. School officials used a modified lockdown, where classes continued, but no one was allowed to leave. It was an inconvenience, but school officials say the parent did the right thing.
“The best security we can have is to have parents and students work with us to keep our schools safe,” Superintendent Dr. Jim Scales said, adding that the faster schools receive information, the faster they can work for an effective resolution.
“When we get information about an issue, we can act quickly and move to make sure that all of our students remain safe. That is what happened here.”
