Research on LaFayette’s historic downtown commercial and residential areas will begin the week of July 13.

Through the efforts of the Coosa Valley Regional Development Center, or CVRDC, LaFayette has received a preservation fund grant by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Historic Preservation Division, or HPD, to prepare a historic resources survey for the downtown commercial district and neighboring residential areas.

HPD has contracted directly with Quatrefoil Consulting of Savannah to conduct the work.  All project activities will be coordinated through the CVRDC and in consultation with the LaFayette Historic Preservation Commission.

Robert A. Ciucevich, Quatrefoil project manager, will prepare an inventory of all historic resources located within the designated survey boundaries.

During the field survey, each historic resource that meets the survey criteria (50 years old and retaining a qualifying degree of historic integrity) will be photographed, a Georgia Historic Resources Survey Form completed, its location marked on a community base map and keyed to the survey form.

Following the completion of the field survey, a final report will be prepared that will include a survey overview; developmental history of LaFayette; architectural analysis of the survey data, including architectural style and type; identification of National Register eligible properties; recommendation for future preservation action; and survey index.

The project is estimated to take two to three months to complete.  Work on the field survey portion of the project will begin the week of July 13 and will take about one week to complete.

Any questions or comments about the survey may be directed to Robert A. Ciucevich, project manager at Quatrefoil Consulting, by phone at (912) 233-8655 or by email at RACQuatrefoil@aol.com; or to Dan Latham, senior planner/historic preservation planner, Coosa Valley RDC, at (706) 295-6485, or by email at dlatham@cvrdc.org.
