The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office will conduct sobriety checkpoints at undisclosed locations in the county beginning Friday, October 30 and continuing through Sunday, November 1.

Lt. W.G. Campbell, supervisor of BCSO’s Traffic Unit, said locations of checkpoints are not announced in advance and are based on data from previous DUI arrests and other traffic safety violations. This weekend’s initiative will include personnel from the traffic unit and patrol officers.

Campbell said people attending Halloween parties should plan ahead making sure they have a designated driver to get home if they consume alcohol.  He also reminds everyone to buckle up and to transport infants and children in age appropriate child restraints.

Joining Campbell to announce the initiative, Sheriff Tim Gobble stressed safety in all holiday observances.

He said motorists should watch for trick-or-treaters as they go door to door collecting their treats. “It takes only a few seconds for a careless or impaired driver to turn a celebration into tragedy,” Gobble said.
