On Thursday, experts warned of a huge increase in gas prices and a possible shortage.
That caused many people to head to the pump, creating havoc.
The question for the upcoming week is; will there be gas, and how much will it cost?
WDEF News 12's Mandy Odom has the answers in our top local story.
Beverly Polen says, "I'm gasing up now because I have to commute. So, I'm gonna try to keep it full."
That's what many Chattanoogans are doing, making sure they have enough gas to get them through the week.
The average price for regular unleaded gas on Sunday was $3.99 a gallon at most stations.
Several were still out of gas and waiting on more.
One clerk told me he expected a delivery Tuesday or Wednesday, but he says each station is different depending on who supplies them.
Tim Rutledge says, "We'll all just struggle and get where we got to go still I guess, till we just get smart and start using bicycles and make them bring the gas down."
Keith Graves from East Ridge questions the reasons for prices going up from the start.
He says, "I think it's a crock. I don't think, we've got plenty of gas, just holding it back so they can raise the prices."
Graves wants the prices to go down.
The Assistant Manager at the Ooltewah Race Way does expect prices to decline.
He says there is no reason to panic.
Assistant Manager Mohammad Hamdan says, "We've been getting steady deliveries, and there will be gas."
With 14 Texas refineries out of commission, one analyst says he expects gas prices to be highest in the Southeast because we get fuel from refineries in the Gulf.
While some stations in the Chattanooga area will not receive a new supply a gas for a couple of days... Others will.
Gas prices here should remain high, but under $4 a gallon.

Gas Shortage???

I work at a convience store in a small town in Tennessee. I grew up in South east Texas along the Gulf Coast. I am 52 and have never seen anything like this before. I truly believe this is just more political garbage going on and am sick and tired of watching our country go down the tubes because of poor political and governmental management. I feel those in power have turned a blind eye and ear to the voice and actions of the people in this country and greed has taken over. And how stupid to think that continuing to bail out those who have made ignorant and greed driven decisions in the past is the way to go and what the people of this country want. Wake up, Stand up, and make yourselves seen and heard people before it's too late. This gas shortage is the biggest farce in the history of this country and we are letting them get away with it.

I think it is absolutely ridiculos the prices Iam seeing around town.. All because of that stupid rumor that went around. I was in Miami, Fl when Katrina hit and gas was nowhere like it is here in TN, Also I was in Fort LAuderdale, Fl when Wilma hit us head on that was a cat2 no power for 16 days and guess what our gas was no where near these prices either... I still have friends WAY down there in extremly expensive Florida who usually pay more money in gas and they are paying LESS right now???? gas traded on Friday for $95.00 a barrel we should be paying $2.80 somewhere in that range for gas not a $1.10 MORE.. The refineries in Louisiana ARE FINE NO PROBLEMS also the one in Texas are fine as well.. Isnt there a price gouging phone # because I know a few stations that were price gouging when those rumors came out and I would like to report them.

Wrong on refineries, TN doesn't get gas from Texas

Tennessee motorists are not served by Texas refining operations. Texas is in the EIA's PADD 3 region which includes Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, and New Mexico. Tennessee is in District 2 with Kentucky, Ohio, Missouri, and others. The only states impacted by a refining problem in Texas are those in PADD 3.
Because everyone went crazy and bought gas over the last couple of days, the PADD 1 & 2 refineries are struggling to keep up with demand in their service states, while also sending some supply to PADD 3 states.
If everyone had gone about their business as usual, no big deal. The people in the states impacted by the Hurricane wouldn't have been buying gas like crazy anyhow, because the roads are impassable and there's a curfew. I suggest you visit:

Gas rip off a crime?

I'm 62 years old and live in a small town Englewood TN. Been around and seen a lot of bad things happen.
Wednesday gas was 3.49 a gallong around here. Thursday it made a 10 cent jump to 3.59. Normally it dosent jump a dime at once. That Thursday a rumor was started to what I belive was planed from the oil companies of a $1.00 jump A gallon in gas for the next day. The set off a panic buying spree that lasted through the night. So all the stores sold thousands of gallons of gas extra for a dime more then the day before. Now Friday comes and the suppliers say a shortage in gas. It dosent take a roket expert to figure out that if everyone fills up the day before that there would be a gas shortage.
Now gas here is 4.59 a gallon. This is nothing more then taken advantage of the people and the big oil companies have the power to do it. Money is power and the oil companies have a lot of it. What will happen about the price gouging? NOTHING. By the time anyone checks the books the store will have droped their prices to be the good guys again. It is OK for them to steal from us but you do a drive off and you will goto jail. Same thing.
Write your congress and try any way. It want do any good but doing nothing will not get anything done.
Gene

All the gas is gone and been for about 2 weeks now. This is taking place in Georgia! When will we wake up people and get out from under the thumb of the oil companies that's making bush rich. McCain and Palin are in the same bandwagon. CHANGE 08
Stop being a racist red state and do what's best for the country as a whole. Even the people of Alaska are holding rallies against Palin.
