Fireworks Sales Seem on Track Despite Tight Economy

Despite the Recession families will ring in the Fourth of July with fireworks this year.
Fireworks sales appear to be on track to at least meet last years numbers.
We caught up with the owner of one store and some of his customers
Bella Duncan, "The cat." Josh Duncan, "Yeah, black cat."
When it comes to fireworks, Josh Duncan and his family aren't picky.
Josh, "Anything that looks pretty."
And has the right price.
Duncan, "Just to find the best deal. To find where we can get the most and have a good time."
Despite the economy this year's good time will include the colorful, loud, sparkly stuff.
Duncan, "We didn't even do anything last year but this year we decided not to let it harm us and we got a couple family members together all pitch in 20, 30 dollars you know come up and get $100 worth or so."
As July 4th approaches Glenn Matthews sees more customers like the Duncans at Glenn's Wholesale Fireworks.
Matthews, "This season started off kind of like last year it was real slow but last year gas was between 4.50 and 5.00 per gallon and the last two days was absolutely fabulous. They were as good as some single days that we had 10 15 years ago it was wonderful."
He expects the same this year.
Sales have already started to pick up.
Billy Mauldin, "A lot of everything I don't really know what we got. We got a bunch of stuff."
Billy Mauldin filled three carts for his annual fireworks display.
He puts it on for his employees and friends.
Mauldin, "We put back for this but it's tight right now."
Still, he's buying around the same amount as last year.
Mauldin, "It's just important you know. The kids the people they love it too. I just enjoy doing it. I miss the money of course but I enjoy doing it."
So do the Duncans.
Duncan, "It's a good thing to get the family together and it's always important to celebrate Independence day."
Area municipalities will also celebrate with Fireworks displays as usual.
We haven't been able to find anyone that canceled the show because of the economy.
