Community leaders stress the importance of adding more
pre-kindergarten classes in Hamilton County.
The anti-crime organization Fight Crime Invest in Kids joined community leaders to read to children at Brown Academy. Advocates say investing in pre-k education now helps prevent crime later on. But not all programs are created equal, experts say qualified early education teachers are crucial to successful pre-k classes.
District Attorney Bill Cox, "If you get a jump start in pre-K, start at an earlier age by the time you get to the third grade you're better apt, better skilled and have better reading skills, you're more apt to stay in school as time goes on you've got a good base."
Last year Tennessee lawmakers approved an additional 25 million dollars for more pre-K classes.
