English Only Fight Not Over in Tennessee Despite Nashville Vote

Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen praised voters in Nashville for turning down an English only referendum.
The measure, that would have prevented city government from using any language but English, failed by more than nine-thousand votes.
The governor said the voters spoke "loudly in support of moving Nashville forward in important areas like new business recruiting and tourist development."
The measure would have made Nashville the largest city in America to prohibit translations into other languages.
But Thursday's vote hasn't changed the mind of one Tennessee lawmaker.
Senator Bill Ketron says he will introduce a bill this session requiring the state to give the written driver's test only in English.
The Murfreesboro lawmaker says Nashville voters don't reflect the feelings of the rest of the state.
Two years ago, his bill passed in the senate but died in a house sub-committee.

Why is it that no one wants

Why is it that no one wants to speak English when they come to my country. If I want to live and work in Spain I will learn Spanish. I want to live and work in Germany, I will learn German, but when others come to MY country, I must learn THEIR language. How rude! Learn english or leave! I think all business in this country should be taken care of in the language of the country - English! Sadly, spanish is becomming more common than English these days. Guess I should have taken that instead of Latin and Arabic. Bloody illegal immigrants!
