In a News 12 update, an East Ridge School Patrol officer is home recovering after being hit by a car last week. Betty Back suffered a broken leg and arm when an 18-year old driver hit her with a Ford Explorer. The accident happened in front of East Ridge Middle School. East Ridge High Schoolers stepped up to build Ms. Back a wheelchair ramp to get in and out of her home. Several businesses have promised to supply *some* of the building materials. But with lumber cost expected to rise due to Hurricane Gustav, the Back family hopes the community will come forward to help cover the rest of the cost. They're in the process of setting up a fund with First Tennessee bank. Check back on this page for updated information regarding the fund.
