As many as 130 million people will receive an economic stimulus check in the coming months.
The sudden influx of cash has a few people confused about just who will get what.
For millions of people filing their income tax return this year, the rebate check is in mail -- well, almost.
Dan Boone, IRS Spokesman says, "For them, it's business as usual, file your 2007 tax return let the IRS process it and we can determine from that return if you're eligible for a check or not."
Boone says starting in May, individuals making less than $75,000 a year can expect about $600. Married couples making less than $150,000 will bank $1200, and each child under 17 in your household could score you an extra $300.
But even folks who don't usually file a tax return but make at least 3 thousand dollars a year can get their portion of the pot.
"Social security or veterans benefits, railroad retirement or maybe those who just have a low income and normally don't have to file a return," Boone explains.
Boone says getting in on the stimulus package is easy enough -- with a 1040A form.
Boone instructs, "Fill out the top part of the return, where you put your name, social security number and of course, check your filing status, sign your return, and at the top, write Stimulus Payment, now that clues us in to the fact that you don't normally file a return."
And that could entitle you to a slightly smaller chunk of change.
But if you're on the government's I-O-U list, don't count that money as good as yours just yet.
"If you owe taxes, back child support, back student loans or things like that that are reported to the IRS, the stimulus payment will be offset to go to that," he says.
But if you don't owe any money, it's happy spending to you. At least that's what the government is hoping, anyway.
The rebate check will not affect your tax returns for 2007 or 2008.
You won't be taxed for this money.
But the IRS recommends keeping the documents that come with the check just in case.
Taxpayers can also use the free online filing system to file for a stimulus payment as well.

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on March 3, 2009 - 8:26pm.
I am a single mother. I didn't have a rich mother to abort my kids. Rich people always look down on others because they have rich parents to bail them out of their mistakes. I struggled to pay my bills, take care of my kids and pay my college tuition. Well, I've been out of college for eight months...NO JOB! That still doesn't stop sallie mae for asking for student loan repayment. Greedy people, we are in a recession but I guess you are too rich to even feel the damages. I have no problem accepting government assistance, without it my kids would live in a box and starve to death.Well I know you probably could care less as long as you have money to go to a resort or something. I would give anything to find a job. I want to work....

Republicans should say NO.
Submitted by Guest (not verified) on February 23, 2009 - 1:58pm.
All republican govenors should say no to the stimulus money. They need to show Obama he is not going to make them take the money. Show some unity and backbone we have a few jobs left. Tell Obama to send it to Iraq they need infrastructure.
And anyone who did vote for any republicans should show a little backbone and send it back explaining how Iraq needs it more than the American people. I want to be one of the first to encourage the republicans to stand firm in your beliefs. And show Obama and his white house staff just how much you know about what is best for this country.
And come 2012 the republican party needs to put Palin & Cheney in the white house to open up a new front some where and straighten all this mess out.
Pawlently ( Minnesota ), Jindal ( Louisana ), Sanford ( South Carolina ), Barbour ( Mississippi ), and how many more will join with these BOZO's, that was all for sending Billions to Iraq?
And how many people will refuse this money as hard as times are?
Submitted by Guest (not verified) on March 2, 2009 - 8:20pm.
That was a dumb remark and way of thinking..........we are in a recession and sorry to tell you that republican or not we as the people are in a time that money and jobs are scarce and the people as a whole knows that we were in desperate need of a change whether it started with a republican or democrat the issue is .............we are in need of a change and we the people of united states chose to give obama a chance to step in and help make this change and hope for the best. As far as standing .......i stand to receive the stimulas check we all over the world is about to receive, so let your own pride stand in the way but i wont nor my family and friends!!!!!!!

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on February 24, 2009 - 11:35pm.
I think we need to seriously focus on our country and our citizens at this time. If President Obama and his staff believe that this stimulus will help our people then we need to be supportive. Why on earth are we even wasting time/Money in Iraq?? Help those that want our help but make sure we are stable enough to even help others. Why dont you have a back bone and support your fellow citizens instead of writing ridiculous comments that make absolutely no sense. As for Palin and Cheney please let them stay where they are. This country has suffered enough in the last eight years!!!!!!!
We two are humiliated
Submitted by lucy mott (not verified) on February 23, 2009 - 12:01pm.
Just to offer some support to the person who has to go to work every day as the non working neighbors watch and humiliate him. The non workers get the workers tax money as they sit high above and watch us scrape off our cars of snow to go to work. They are sitting nice and cozy and can then take a nap if they want to after we go to work to pay for their food and housing. And more food stamps
get your facts right before you talk down upon people.
Submitted by Guest (not verified) on March 31, 2009 - 8:30pm.
first off no i dont work and yes i recieve help from the gov't and yes i have worked in the past but im now going back to school and i need help. my mom died in oct of 08 and my father died 7 years ago and i dont have help from people like some other people so i have to get the help where i can get it from. and there is nothing wrong with that. when you lose your job and can't come up with money to feed your house im going to see won't you go gat help. people are getting laid off everyday and dont know where they are going to get their next meal from. so before you start to talk down upon non-workers, you should get your facts straight.

Thats a sad story you have there. How about trying to go to school full time AND work? I did it and it was not that bad. I guess you are content to just bum around with a sad face and wait for people to give you handouts. How about trying to be an adult and stop mooching off every form of government assistance you can get? I went to school from 8:00am to 3:45pm every day then went to work at 4:00pm till 12:30am everyday for 3 years. I dont see why you cant do it. And dont come back with an excuse like I have kids because I have 5 kids but I did what I had to do to give them a better life. I did not do all that so my tax dollars could take care of lazy mooches like you who will not work.

Well you have a very impressive "record". However, it is not reasonable to expect all others to be able to do the same thing. You might think of it this way: Some people can run a mile in less than 4 minutes but just because they can, does not mean that everyone else can do that. Still it may be that some additional effort should be made by the person you are criticizing but not as exteme as you want.

Submitted by Guest (not verified) on June 9, 2009 - 1:41pm.
You're wrong, plain and simple. I have 2 kids. My son was born the year I went back to school after 14 years in the medical field. I went to school full time and worked full time night shift. I graduated when I was 38. Don't hand me that crap that they can't get off their collective lazy ass and do what it takes to get an education to get a job. Hell you don't even NEED an education to get a job, you just have to want to pay your own way rather than making others pay for you. You might say you don't have the money, right? Neither did I an now I am in debt to the tune of $30k. I am employed and paying my way as I have been since I was 16. So, get off your lazy ass and get *A* job. ANY job is better than NO job.

I have to say that those people who doesn't work and collect from the government year after year, they've got it made and it makes me sick to my stomach that the average family works hard just to keep food on the table and hope his electricity never gets turned off. We've encountered alot of families that uses the government and don't have to work.. they move into lavish homes and have lavish furnitures, the children are always dressed in very expensive name brand clothing, they have cell phones and laptops and to top that off they have lavish birthday parties...and that's our tax money!! We're supporting them. Single mothers who gets pregnant every year so her benefits gets bigger and bigger...one family gets a 2500 dollar housing allowance because she has 4 children and gets no child support and then gets child care money from 2 different counties and then she gets a 1500 dollars monetary allowances as well to pay for her utilities and so she can buy necessities..

I dont know where you get your facts from because i have never heard of anyone getting a $2500 housing allowance from the government or $1500 allowance.and i bet you will change your attitude when you lose your job and you need help from the government.and just so you know, most people who get food stamps and government medical insurance usually have jobs or did have jobs and lost them so therefore it is also they're taxes paying for the government help!!!!I am 23 years old and have been working since i was 16 so i have always paid into my taxes and now in this past year i had my first child and lost my job so now i need govt. help and i deserve it cuz for 8 years i paid taxes and got nothing back.so you need to back off and not worry about other people and how they live.oh and by the way,i dont have a "lavish" house or car or a laptop or anything that you think us govt. needy people have.

I also can't understand how our goverment will pay you not to work. They are making a big think about the people that are behind on house payments, car payments and credit cards. Why didn't they cut back on spending when they were getting deep in debt and not trying to enjoy more than they could play for. My wife and I worked to pay off all our debts so if something like this happen we were able to live.
Now the goverment seems to now worry about who managesed their money but who is crying the blues for help.

They can just take your money whenever they want! Children and families has denied me and my children medicaid and say I owe them 1500.00 from 2 years ago from a mistake THEY made. I am a full time student with 2 children and that doesn't seem to matter. When you try to contact them....you can't because It's always a busy signal!!! They wonder why people don't try to better them selves, this is why!!! It's much less stressful to just go sell drugs or something of that nature and those are the people they help!!!

From all of the research I've done it looks like he's going to give each American a total of $13.00 (more or less depending on status, if you're a parent, etc) a paycheck extra for a year. There will be no checks in the mail this time... I don't see how this will "Stimulate the Economy", but I'm not running for office so it's okay that this solution is beyond my train of thought.
Just thought I'd share what I found.

Don't know What To Do

My husband and myself are both permanantly disabled. We have a fixed income. When we get our checks every month, a huge chunk is paid to the electric company right off the bat, just to keep our electricity going as my husband relies on a breathing machine to breathe. Try paying all but 100.00 of a 300.00 bill and in ten days they will send out someone to turn your electric off. Then we have to pay a portion of my husbands meds he gets from the V.A. every month.Six meds and his Dr. visits are also a chunk. Gasoline,my medication for high blood pressure, depression and anxiety and panic disorder(which are only made worse by all the stress of trying to live, and by the way I don't get to take regularly becasue I can't afford 85.00 to see the Doctor to get my refills. If I go to the Doctor I don't eat so what difference does it make.
We are trying to pay for and maintain a meager mobile home and having to worry that the city or county is going to auction it off on the courthouse steps because we are taxed out of our minds and can't catch up with the taxes either. So to the people that think we don't need a stimulus payment or some kind of relief, I ask you to trade places with us for a month and see how you like it.
Sorry for the ranting but something has got to give.

If you and your husband are

If you and your husband are both disabled you should qualify for Part D - Prescription Drug Plan through Medicare. This program greatly reduces your prescription drug costs. I am disabled also and I pay a maximum of $6.20 per perscription. You really need to check with Medicare about this, since you should already be receiving it.

HAng in there D'Ann
Have you tried writing to the pharmaceutical companies that make the medicine you and your husband take? Sometimes they will provide the prescription to you at no cost. It's worth a shot. Have you tried going to your local departmetn of social services and applying for help with the electricity bill? They may help you if you need electric to operate your heat source. It's a federal program known as HEAP. I know this won't solve all your problems but maybe free up more cash for bills. Good luck and god bless-you're not alone.

I really feel bad for D'Ann as this kind of deprivation should not be happening in America where we are spending $10B a month in Iraq while 50 million Americans go without adequate or any health care or prescriptions if they need them. Both Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez of Venezuela at one point three years ago after hurrican Katrina offered to send hundreds of doctors to the US to help the uninsured receive basic healtcare. Result - the right wing patriots went into a frenzy and dug their heels back into their archaic ideology of the Right.
For these people, they should contact AARP that has info on the Low Income Drug Subsidy program available by the drug industry to help these people with hight cost prescriptions. His wife may also qualify for Medicaid which will help defray some of these medical costs.

i filed taxes for 2008 and they asked me if I got 600 dollars for rebate, I said no, they said since I only got 300 for being married and filing joint IRS owes me 600 dollars, but instead they took 300 dollars out from my refund, why. I barely make 12,000 a year. Do they now owe me 600 dolars for Ex-President Bush's stimulas check.
It happened to me also

According to everything I read, the two thousand and eight stimulus worked like this... If you qualify--- 600 for a single parent and 300 for additional credits (a child.) I got 900.00 as a stim.. ( me a single parent and my daughter) in 2008. i filed my 2008 and the IRS just took 300.00 out of mine too. I think its a scam to pay for their Obama road building project.

You can take your golden hand shake and all your silly rules and all the other lies that they teach your kids in school.
It's all a big game and we are the fools.
To believe a politician you are dumb.
To believe anyone today, your going to get hurt.
90% of all man is a liar.
90% don't know what they are doing.
Your a pone, so believe if you want to.
No one except your mother and father care for you, only use you.And some parents don't give a hoot about you. Good luck pone.
Anytime a government gives you $$$money back, someone has brought it to attention that they have been stealing from you all along.

I find your comments to be troubling. If you trust no one how do you get threw your day. In my job I have no choose but to trust my friends and fellow workers. I feel sorry for a person that has your outlook. Maybe some day you will find that your outlook on life will change because the only thing you can do is truct and rely on someone else. I don't say trust blindly but you will know that person to trust. Life is far to short to live as your comment reflects. Slow down and watch others around you. You will find that you are not the only one that needs help. Wee all do?
I can't help it if I am disabled, It is not like I choose to be

well you think that getting social security is the cause of problems? I would love to talk to you in person about this one. It is not fun at all. Have you ever been hospitalized for 10-12 months at a time? Have you ever had to take up to 10 different medications per day so that you can stay out of the hospital? Have you ever thought about how dangerouse it would be to work with someone who is under the side effects of this medicine? How much would it cost to hospitalize the people who would not be able to live outside of long term care facility without a govt. payment to help them live more independent? you,re taxes would be about 100-200 dollars a month more than you are paying now. You seem to have the typical Neo - Nazi attitude and I actually know for a fact that racism and complexes of people who discriminate against another person because of a persons ability level are a psychiatric condition that falls underneath paranoid schizophrenia. I also know for a fact that I have a deep appreciation for the united states for helping to defeat the axis powers and the nazi party in world war two. Otherwise people like you or I would not have an equal opportunity to be alive and to enjoy what little we have to look forward to. Maybe you ought to think of these things when you are scraping the snow off of you're car in the morning. Most "Those people" who are like myself would probably give there right arm to be able to have a semi normal life like you're self. So the next time you think of "these people" and want to cut them down, You should actually not feel so jealous but very very thankful and happy that you never had to take 1-5 years out of you're life to spend time hospitalized and take hand fulls of pills just to even have the chance to watch what a semi normal person does every morning before they get the opportunity to go to work and have a normal life. And think to ourselves " that guy is lucky he got dealt a good card in life"

True freedom comes through
Submitted by Guest (not verified) on February 14, 2009 - 6:45pm.
True freedom comes through trust and love of yourself. But the US government, that preaches freedom and democracy through the media so freely, is the murderer of that truth. Consume and pay in while Uncle Sam and his Illuminati chronies reap the benefits with their full pockets in the midst of our "depression." I don't know what to do, but we've gotta stand up and do something. If someone comes up with a plan, please do make it public.

Back in June or July I put away (or hid) my stimulus check. Trying not to spend it I hid it so well that throughout these last 6 months or so, I,ve totally forgotten about it. I know that sounds so ignorant of me but when you try to save something and not spend......... Anyways well I was cleaning out my well hidden area and found my check and was so happy due to the very hard times that I am going through right at this moment and guess what? it's voided as of 2 weeks ago!!!!!What do I do? I can't imagine losing this money. Please someone give me some advise. Thank you very much

To whom it may concern,
People take the IRS as enemies. They are not your enemy,
They will help you if you ask them to.I've experienced overdue and late taxes which accumalated late and overdue charges which was'nt very much. They allowed me to set my payment amount to pay up my taxes. That is a friendly act.Call them and ask questions on how you can claim that money again and they just might have a surprising solution for you.Take care.
sincerely-
