Cold Case: Dive Shop
January 3, 2002. An attempted robbery at the Leisure Time Dive and Ski Shop on Brainerd road turns into a murder investigation. Just before shots were fired, three people were inside: owner James Lewis, Co-owner Terry Slaughter, and the man police say tried to rob the business.
James Holloway is a Chattanooga Homicide Investigator. Holloway says, "the suspect entered the business, and told Lewis and he, you know what this is, yeah, got a gun and orders them to the floor."
After ordering Lewis and Slaughter to the floor, police say the suspect asked them where the money was. He was told it was in the filing cabinet. Slaughter then heard shots ring out. James Lewis ended up dying of his injuries. But the surviving witness did get a description. The suspect was a black male, five foot six, to five foot ten inches tall. He had a medium build, and was wearing a dark grey jacket or trench coat, a dark ski mask, blue jeans, gloves and athletic shoes. Police believe James Lewis may have struggled with the suspect before being shot. Lewis' ring was ripped off his hand and was lying nearby. Now, six years after the murder, police are still trying to solve this case. That's why detectives hope someone can point them to the killer.
