The Cleveland man killed on a humanitarian aid mission in Africa was laid to rest Tuesday.

More than 15-hundred people attended services for Chris Leggett.

He was shot last Tuesday during an attempted kidnapping in Mauritania.

The 39 year old headed a school for computer science and languages.

Al-Jazeera T-V reports the North African branch of Al-Qaida claims Leggett was executed for what they called "Christianizing activities."

Mauritania is a Muslim country... But the government is pro-western and has fought the spread of Al-Qaida.

Chris's father Jay Leggett says, "Our son and Jackie's loving husband Chris passionately loved God and people everywhere. It was this passion that drew him to take risks."

Mr. Leggett says the family's goal is to have something good come out of the tragedy.

Chris was a great guy. So

Chris was a great guy. So gracious & kind. The true spirit of an ideal is shown by what it is threatened by. His killers were threatened by love and kindness.

A hero in my eyes.
