If engineering groups have their way, Chattanooga will one day take its place as a leader in nuclear science and technology.

The Engineers Club, The Technology Council, and the Engineers Institute today welcomed members of the American Nuclear Society to a noon meeting Friday.

The new Alstom plant along with Volkswagen has brought renewed interest in engineering-type jobs locally.

The presentation was called "the re-emergence of Chattanooga as a leader in nuclear energy."

When the word nuclear comes up, most of us would think about the Sequoyah plant, but the picture is broader than that.

ZACK RAD, TVA NUCLEAR ENGINEER "Outside of TVA there's a great deal of companies with interest in nuclear and we're looking all the way down the line with manufacturing..and of course there are industrial uses for nuclear science."

TVA, Alstom, Westinghouse and Erlanger Medical Center all took part in today's group discussion.
