Spider-Man Robber

Police step up patrols, spinning a web to snag the so called Spider-Man robber. The masked gunman hit eight businesses in the past two weeks. But police may be closing in.

Stephen Pratt, Spider-Man Fan, "He's strong. He can jump really high. He's got really good agility, kind of like a spider or something like that you know. He's really smart."

Chattanooga's latest notorious robber seems to be calling on Spider-Man's powers.

Sgt. Jeri Weary, Chattanooga Police, "He's been known to carry a gun, a black hand gun, and is wearing a Spider-Man mask along with either prescription glasses or safety goggles."Pratt, "It's original. I haven't heard of it before so I'll give him that."

Police say the spree started at this Williams Street Motel Six on May 21st. The masked bandit then hit this La Quinta, twice. Two convenience store clerks, one at this Kangaroo Express and the other at this Conoco also fell victim.

Sgt. Weary, "Anytime that you have someone who uses a gun in commission of a felony it's taken very seriously regardless of what his method of operation is."

The Spider-Man robber also hit this adult video store on Rossville Boulevard and an adult video stand down the street. The owner tells News 12 the robber's missing some fingers.

Sgt. Weary, "I don't believe that we've seen anyone in our region with this type of an MO."

Police have stepped up patrols and say the Spider Bandit is weaving his own web of capture with each crime he commits.

Sgt. Weary, "More and more is being seen. We've had multiple witnesses to come forward with descriptions. We've also had video surveillance to capture his actual image. We're getting more and more of who he is."

Lovers of the real Spidey say there's one thing he's not.

Pratt, "Any real Spiderman fan wouldn't go out and do that."

Witnesses describe the Spiderman robber as 5'6" to 5'10", weighing around 145 to 155 pounds. He has brown or blond hair and besides the mask he's wearing prescription glasses or goggles. If you recognize him call Chattanooga police.
