kChattanoogans come together to celebrate the life of a longtime leader in the Westside community.

Shelia Jennings passed away Thursday.

The 43-year-old was a former Westside Resident Association President.

Jennings is credited for bringing programs into the area to educate kids and adults.

Friend Cassandra Robinson says, "We got tired of the violence, which she was a part of the 'Stop The Violence' program. We wanted something safe for our kids and Shelia was one of the ones to say we can do it whatever it takes."

Bill Henry worked with Shelia to bring a computer program to the neighborhood. Henry says, "Shelia would come in and say she was grieved about somebody and we would pray together for people, she was a great organizer. She was truly the mayor the Westside."

Funeral services for Jennings will be Thursday at Second Missionary Baptist Church.
