In Oklahoma, a driver goes into severe diabetic shock, but instead of getting help, he's tasered and then handcuffed.

This video shows what happened in El Reno, Oklahoma last month

after the man's truck spun out on the interstate.

The town's police chief says his officers thought the 53-year-old man was under the influence of drugs or alcohol and was resisting arrest.

He says after they realized that wasn't the case, they called an ambulance.

It's unfortunate in the officers' aspect and they feel extremely bad after they learned that in fact it was a medical need and not someone who was under the influence of an intoxicant, drug or alcohol.

A spokesman for the agency that certifies

officers says it's state law for all student officers to learn how to recognize and care for type one and type two diabetic patients.

WHy not traquilizer gun instead of Shock therapy?

There are oh, to many alternative approaches to subdoing misunderstood situations. Tazers are nothing more than a corporate support economic consideration on part of the city , State and countys to reap more revenues.

Clean out the Municipalities from Graft tha tazers will disapear.

EVEN if the guy was drunk...

...would that be reason enough to torture and possibly kill him with a Taser? Gee...

serve and protect???

What do they do...make money for the city and state...while doing a Barney fife when it comes to protecting and serving regular citizens. Could be an honest mistake....unfortunate if it was....I hope the cop learns from this and becomes better at his chosen profession.

hasnt everyone noticed that

hasnt everyone noticed that cops arent really cops anymore. they are well armed and armored soldiers. they learn mma fighting at the academy, and are quick to subdue you in any situation. they are so scared that you are lucky if you come away from a traffic stop with just a ticket. be careful. these guys are locked, loaded, and trigger-happy punks.

Diabetic "drunks"

I'm not defending the officers involved because the tape indicates the driver was in no shape to fight off three cops. That being said, diabetics being mistaken for drunks is a not uncommon situation; police officers should receive some training so they're at least aware of the possibility that the "drunk" might be in need of medical attention, not tasering. Because mistakes are frequently made in this type of situation, all diabetics should have stickers on their car windows to advise police and EMTs and wear a Medicalert bracelet or some other readily visible ID.

"readily visible ID"

What would you propose? How about diabetics be required to wear a big red "D" on their clothing. Maybe epileptics should wear a big red "E" too? Finally, how about people who propose stupid, idiotic "solutions" be ordered to wear a big, red, "S?" Oh, wait, that would be Superman's shtick... then, how about an "I?" for idiot.

Bill Engvall was right... "Here's Your Sign!"

Why don't we train cops to think first, and resort to physical violence later instead of the other way around? When watching COPS, I wonder why these boneheads are so quick to throw people on the ground and stomp on their necks? My cousin, a former Air Force SWAT and anti-terror team instructor, Sheriff, and Police Chief wonders the same thing too.

Taser

And cops wonder why communities want civilian review boards with subpoena power.

Taser him again

If he don't mind the next time they will taser him again. Ask questions after they are dead if possible. That is suppose to be every lawmans motto. That way they are always in control. They have to be the boss and everyone else has to do exactly what they say when they say it. Or you should be dead. No excuse. Cops are always perfect ask any judge or ask any other cop. They never make any mistakes that man was wrong and should have been shot dead. And then talk about why he did not respond to their demands. Those three cops are heros they should recieve metals for bravery and sparing a life. And the driver needs to have a billboard attached to his truck advising of his medical condition.

What would have happened...

...if they didn't have tasers? Would they have shot him, then found at the autopsy that he was diabetic. We really need to take a good hard look at the people who are working in our Police departments. They should feel more than bad, they should feel very ashamed, maybe even start looking for another line of work.
