A National Guard Unit based in Athens Tennessee has been put on alert.
The 117th Military Police Battalion has 70 members in the Athens area.
The alert does NOT guarantee a foreign deployment.
But it does begin the process of a possible call to active duty.
Another Military Police unit in Cleveland was put on alert a couple of months ago.
