Accidental Shooting Leaves Hixson Woman in Serious Condition
A Hixson woman suffers a serious gunshot wound and her dog gets part of the blame.
Chattanooga police spokesperson Jerri Weary says the shooting happened about 3:30 Wednesday morning at 944 Ely Road.
The 50-year-old woman told investigators her home had been burglarized recently.
She heard something suspicious outside and let one of her dogs out.
Her husband, who was asleep on the couch, got up.
At that point, the dog ran back in, causing the man to trip.
As he tried to regain his balance, he fired a shot striking his wife in the back.
She was taken to Erlanger for surgery.
