73 Year Old Heading Back to Jail 47 Years After Prison Break

|

73 year old James Albert Morgan is headed back to prison after breaking out 46 years ago.

Police say Morgan burglarized a business in Chattanooga around 1960.

He got a three year term to the Tennessee State Prison in Nashville.

But just a year into that term.. He and two other inmates broke out.

Police say he rode a log down the Cumberland River.. Hitchhiked to Chattanooga and kept going south.

He lived in Florida for 14 years, but eventually returned to Tennessee.

Now more than 45 years later.. He was picked up in a crime sweep near Greenville.

He'll have to finish that three year term at Brushy Mountain.

Let Him Go. Lets Hunt Down

Let Him Go. Lets Hunt Down The White Biggets That Kill Blacks For Hatrick. He Did Not Kill Anyone.I Probably Would Like The Old Dude If I Meet Him.

BEEN CLEAN THIS LONG

HE HASNT BEEN IN ANY TROUBLE ALL THESE YEARS ... SO LET IT BE.... BIGGER FISH TO CACTH... MURDERS FOR ONE...

what is the real lesson to be taught??

The reason people are punished is to teach lessons. He hasn't been in trouble since. People make bad decisions. He didn't hurt anyone. He is old have hearts people. Everyone thinks SEND HIM TO JAIL but stop and look at another way. Brushy Mtn won't better him as a person. It will probaly kill him. I agree with the others. Find the murderers and the rapist. Let the 50 year old robbery go.

30 Years on the Run

It's PATHETIC that a prison escapee was LIVING in the state where he was incarcerated.
It shows the general level of incompetence of the police in the fact that this individual:

1) Apparently was driving and working
2) Was still involved in criminal activity.
3) Had to have some type of ID to function in society...

And they were still unable to locate him.

ATTENTION PRISON ESCAPEES:Go to TN..they won't catch you there.

who posts on news pages to

who posts on news pages to correct people's grammar? Do you really need to feel right that bad?

Anyways, I think it is a good thing he is going back to prison. Him being a nice guy doesn't take away from the fact that he broke out of prison.

PWND FOOL!

PWND FOOL!

Bubber: Well said. I

Bubber: Well said. I couldn't have phrased that any better.

Phil: What the hell are you saying? You sound as if you've been hitting the jug again!

"He was picked up in a crime

"He was picked up in a crime sweep near Greenville."

So he came back to Tennessee to commit more crimes?

Statute of limitations?

I'm pretty sure we still have one anyway. Isn't Murder the only thing that lasts this long? Although, since he was convicted, I suppose that trumps the statute. Maybe it only applies before conviction...

Nope

There is no statute of limitations for an inmate who escapes from jail. It will follow him until the day he dies.

You're both losers

You're both losers

46 years let him go

Its pathetic the man excaped that long ago and had to watch over his shoulder everyday i figure that is lesson learned if u didnt catch him 46 years ago worry about more serious stuff now we got murders and people making drugs and u are worried about a 46 year crime

I wish you two could type...

I wish you two could type...

He got lazy. Probably

He got lazy. Probably figured, "Ah, well, they can't still be looking for me." He deserves to go back. This proves that if you bust out, and stay out for an extended period, there are no real consequences when you get back!

I feel much safer now

I wonder whose getting out early to make space for him.

Stellar logic and grammar

Stellar logic and grammar displayed by posters below.

i have known this man since

i have known this man since 1986 and he was a very kind man , that would give you the last dollar he had, to help someone.

Phil, What on earth are you

Phil, What on earth are you talking about????

This is classic. At this

This is classic. At this rate we should probably catch up with Osama Bin Laden sometime around 2256.

Maybe you shouldn't comment

Maybe you shouldn't comment on an article unless you can form a complete sentence.

Utterly silly

I can't believe that my tax dollars are being wasted on this. The real thieves are the law enforcement personell that wasted money getting this "dangerous criminal" off the streets. 46 years with no trouble with the law is long enough. Now we are are going to spend $40,000-$50,000/year to feed and house him - not to mention providing him with medical care. Where is the benefit to either society or Morgan? There is none. I am not a liberal, and am "tough on crime", but good sense should have prevailed and Morgan should be parolled or put on probation. However, this is America.

I am only middle age so I am not going back more then a decade or two and I think the country has gone insane!
It's even worse with kids, everything is now a serious crime. Stuff that was normal for the same people now making these neo-nazi style rules is now a federal case. Why not spend a little more time going after real criminals! Then this guy, if after 47 years he hasn't done anything at all wrong why not just leave him alone. There are probably people depending on him or family that will be hurt for no reason at all. Plus we get to pay for jailing the poor guy. He is 73 may only have so many years left so give him a high five for the log trick and get over it! It was a big issue 47 years ago but now just history. Please do not reelect these people who think this is a good idea before the go after you for improper lawn mower hight.

Wow, your both idiots first

Wow, your both idiots first of all I dont think they were really looking for him for the entire 47 years and second of all phil is a dumbass and cant spell.

reform vs punishment

Hmmmm,
I thought the purpose of prisons/jails were to reform.
I would say if the gentleman has stayed out of trouble for 40 odd years, he's done well.

Good grief!

Shrillary probably turned him in when she heard he was going to vote for Obama...

Least ways,that's what I heard.

:)

he looks sad in that

he looks sad in that picture. :-(

Goshums

it jerst goes to show ya that ya can leed a horse ta wattah but yah cant maek it swim purple monkey disjhwasher

that doesn't make sense

usually when people break out of prison they get charged for that too and their sentence is increased. i wonder why that didn't happen to this guy.

Oh please

A harmless crime in 1960! With no injuries! Come on! A judge should just let him go.

The man lived 40+ years without a criminal incident! This extent of time is a crime free record which many convicted criminals cannot replicate .

The Commonwealth (is Tenn. a Commonwealth?) should let the man pass away in peace with his family.

Oh Please

No one harmed by it? Ask the business that he broke into if they were harmed by it-or nay of the other thousands of businesses and private citezens that suffer breakins if they were harmed by the crime! Back to jail he goes or there is not a purpose in punishing crimes!

By your logic, everyone

By your logic, everyone should be able to commit one crime without ever serving a day in prison. After all, they're going to live the rest of their lives without another criminal incident, right? They should only go to jail after the second crime, right?

47 years

it shows u how the usa is with police it took 45 years to find this guy

@4:44 Yes, no other country

@4:44
Yes, no other country has ever had a prisoner escape who hasn't been recaptured.

Dolt.

RE: 47 years

"it shows u how the usa is with police it took 45 years to find this guy"

Hmm ... Jack The Ripper?

If you couldn't catch him

If you couldn't catch him for that long, apparently he hasn't been a criminal for the last several decades. What's the point?

'It shows you how the USA is

'It shows you how the USA is with' IDIOTS like you.

They weren't looking for him all that time. They stopped a long time ago.

Also, your spelling is that of a retarded chimp.

talk

he could not take the time he was in there so he left and osme one was going to kill him so that is way he broke out
