11-Year Old Florida Student Tasered

Authorities in central Florida say a sheriff's deputy tasered an 11-year-old
girl who punched her in the face.

They say it all started when the girl pushed another student into oncoming
traffic Thursday morning.

Adam Longo talked with a girl who witnessed the tasering.

Student: She grabbed her and she swinged her arm and it hit her nose.

Adam: So when the officer swung her arm that's what hit her nose?

Student: Yah. She's a strong girl.

THIS GIRL DIDN'T WANT TO BE IDENTIFIED FOR FEAR OF REPRISAL FROM THE SCHOOL.

BUT SHE WAS INSIDE THE 4TH GRADE ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE CLASS WHEN THE INCIDENT UNFOLDED.

Adam: Do you think they needed to shock her to calm her down?

Student: Yes, cause to calm her down and stop punching.

THE GIRL TELLS US THAT THALIA OFTEN THREATENS OTHER STUDENTS AND CUSSES IN SCHOOL.

BUT SHE AND HER CLASSMATES WERE QUITE SURPRISED HOW IT WENT DOWN.

Student: A lot of people in class started crying.

Adam: Why?

Student: Cause when she got shocker her eyes was closed for like a minute .. it was scary.

REACTION TO THE TAZING .. MIXED AMONG PARENTS .. WHO GOT A NOTE SENT HOME WITH THEIR KIDS.

I think there could have been another way of handling the situation other than tasering the child.

I believe our officer had every right to do what she did. 99 percent of us we
stand behind her.

The 11-year-old girl was taken to a hospital to get checked out.

She's now in a juvenille detention center.. facing charges of battery on a law
enforcement officer, disrupting a school function and resisting with violence.
