The number of American police officers killed in the line of duty dropped in 2008.  Of the 140-deaths, about half were traffic related.  41 officers were killed by gunfire, including one deputy from our region.

Despite years of public service among them, four local authority figures found themselves in the public eye for the wrong reasons this year. They all lost their positions, and some even wound up behind bars.

Republican opposition in the Senate stalled an auto industry rescue plan today.  Former Chattanooga Mayor Bob Corker appears to be leading the charge.  Corker favors an alternative measure he says offers a once in a lifetime chance to fix the industry.

Tennessee Senator Bob Corker wants automakers to pay down their debt and reduce wages and benefits to a level equivalent to that of foreign automakers.

Tickets for the annual Bonnaroo festival went on sale this morning.  A limited number of general admission tickets will be available for $209.50.  After those sell out, the price goes up.
