It is sad when people

It is sad when people believe everything they hear without thinking.

Dogs of any origin do not snap. Dogs simply do not attack their owners without warning.

Most major dog attacks are by repeat offenders who have lived in unsocialized settings and could never be considered a "family dog."

Pit bull type dogs, Great Danes, Dobermans, German Shepherd Dogs, Chows, and every other breed that has been known as "devil dogs" are simply “dogs.” Dangerous dogs are the result of dangerous owners. Effective laws target these people. Breed specific legislation make simple-minded folks feel better and politicians feel good about “doing something,” even if that “something” is targeting the wrong end of the leash leading to decreases in public safety.

Simple-minded folks believe the hype and urban myths. Dobermans of the 1980s, German Shepherd Dogs of the 1940s, and pit bull type dogs of today do not have "locking jaws," "brains bigger than their heads," or a temperament that causes them to "snap" and attack their owners.

It is too bad that folks do not step back a minute and think about this; I'm sure they would realize that there pieces missing in the stories; the typical case involves a dog that was chained "out back" with limited contact with the family or a dog was new to the household with a prior history of attacks. I'm not sure if this naiveté is an indicator of poor schooling or over-reliance on media hype, but surely it indicates a worrisome state of affairs for anyone concerned about facts and improving public safety.
