BSL and ignorance
Cate, Please feel free to cite your sources for these "facts" that you have introduced. e.g. "The average aggressive dog owner is young, male and often aggressive themselves. They do not possess the experience to own such an animal nor train it properly." In addition, the dog that you are referring to as a "mastive" is a mastiff, and cannot be more different than the picture that you paint of it. Feel free to do more research, but remember that it takes an open mind to educate yourself. For starters, here is a link to the Mastiff Club of America FAQ page: http://mastiff.org/faq/ Finally, almost everything in your post is an opinion presented as fact. To counter: In my opinion, owners should be held responsible for their own negligence. The last thing that is needed is another law to shift blame from an irresponsible owner to the breed of dog. However, I have no issue with the strict enforcement of laws designed around responsible ownership. Dogs of any breed lack the thought processes of human beings. It is up to us, as responsible owners, to insure that our animals are not in a position for an accident to happen.
