The Majestic 12..is a "green" theatre.
In this case, it means the new building is the first LEED certified theatre in the country.
The formal opening was a film-cutting ceremony on the sidewalk at 311 Broad Street.
RiverCity Company invested 7-million dollars in the building which is leased to Carmike theatres.
Other funding came from the Benwood and Lyndhurst Foundations.
It was not built in the traditional way.
Jeff Pfitzer\RiverCity Company
"We used recyclable and recycled materials in the construction so that at every level, we ask the question how is building can perform in a way that's environmentally responsible."
It has stadium seating for up to 2500 people and 12 screens.
The Majestic 12 will also offer International Film Series selections and specialty movies not shown in other theaters.
