The film adaptation of the beloved picture book topped the box office, bringing in an estimated 32-and-a-half million dollars in its opening weekend.

Coming in second: "Law Abiding Citizen" starring Jamie Foxx.

It debuted with a little more than 21 million.

"Paranormal Activity" was third, bringing in just over 20 million.
