The Blame Game

It's easy to see things black and white, but is life ever really that clear?? We all have contributed to what has happened because we all live in Chattanooga as a community. These neighborhoods are a mess, but what are we doing to try to change them??? Throwing government funds at the situation obviously is not the answer, but teaching people how to thrive as a community will. Strong marriages and strong families can prevent these tragic (and yes this is a tragedy--- a 15 yr. old who could've been someone very different than who he was) situations. My heart goes to the Mother of the son, as well as the officer who had to make such a tough call. We all know that education is the future for all, but that does not mean just academic studies. Without a moral education what good does becoming educated do for the community. We need to think outside of our own sheltered lives and help raise up these neighborhoods. There are people in these areas that want a different life for their kids, but they may not know exactly how to do it under these conditions. I hope that people will rise up to action in helping to save these troubled places instead of sitting back and judging. I am raising 5 boys, one of which, is a 15 yr. old. I pray that he makes good choices, but I also have been very present in his life all of his life. I know where he is every moment of every day and most often he is with our family. He enjoys being with his family and doesn't seek to gain love and acceptance elsewhere. It would be amazing for these young teens to want to stay home with their families instead of out on the streets with their friends. It seems to me that this happens because Moms and Dads want to live their own life and you can do that more easily when your kids aren't around. I'm not bringing that up to judge, but as an observation to better understand the dynamic of this epidemic occurring in urban areas. I will do my part in going to these neighborhoods and providing service projects from time to time, but it would be wonderful to see more individuals rising up to save these troubled places in OUR community.
