Local Red Cross Sees More Fires; Needs More Donations

| |

The American Red Cross of Greater Chattanooga says it's seen more house fire victims this year than last.
Board members gathered for their annual meeting Monday.
They're $150,000 behind in the budget.
Outgoing chairman Tim Mickel says they've helped 950 burned out families this year.
He says, "The number of fires and just sort of single family disasters in the past year has just grown up exponentially. So, we've had to cover those as well, and that of course requires more operating funds and with the economy being the way it is and the price of gas and other things, donations are down."
Mickel says they're dealing with the shortfall and hope to continue helping people in need.
