New Waste Cell for Whitfield Landfill

The new 12 acre cell will provide service for about five more years at the facility.
Executive Director Norman Barashick says once the cell begins receiving garbage, they will capture methane for profit.
Barashick explains, "In that, we're going to collect landfill gas off of the landfill, clean it up a little bit and send it down to the local dow chemical facility to be utilized as an alternative renewable energy."
Barashick expects to complete the cell by August.
The project costs about $300,000 to comply with federal environmental mandates.
