Storm dents cars, collapses garage and snarls Bessie Smith preps
Submitted by WDEF on June 9, 2008 - 6:38pm. News | Weather VideoA heavy rain got suddenly louder.
You could soon tell that there were chunks of ice falling with the raindrops
We got pea-size hail here at the station.
And there was more across town.
On Frazier and Fehn downed telephone and cable wires littered the street.
Branches were also down.
Along Highway 27 Southbound hail and wet pavement caused one driver to hydroplane and spinout, the driver was transported to the hospital as a precaution.
A home owner on 14th street and Dodds Avenue lost her garage to the storm.
It collapsed during the severe weather.
She thinks it may have been hit by lightning... And worried about the can of gas inside.
The storm also caused a transformer fire.
It happened behind a business at the corner of 35-th street and 8-th avenue.
It appears strong winds blew a tree onto the line.
E-P-B workers were on the scene to cut power to the surrounding lines.
So imagine if that storm hit during the Bessie Smith Strut tonight.
Luckily it just made the setup a little more challenging this afternoon.
