"Visions of Hope" Focuses on Teen Pregnancy
Submitted by Bethany Mowry on May 8, 2008 - 5:20pm. News | HealthA forum on teen pregnancy in Whitfield and Murray County sheds new light on the growing problem for many residents.
The Visions of Hope program featured panelists of former pregnant teens.
Along with local leaders and health care practitioners, they offered a frank discussion on teen pregnancy.
Elaine Butler with the Family Support Council says dialog about the problem needs to be prevalent with children everywhere.
Butler observes, "I heard words used today that aren't usually used publicly, that's what's we're going to have to do, we're going to have to get past our inhibitions and we're going to have to give youth the chance to get the knowledge that they need."
Data shows there are three new teen pregnancies in Murray County and six new teen pregnancies in Whitfield County each week.
